About us

We met in 1996 during a Discipleship Training School with Youth With A Mission in Tyler Texas. Giacomo is from Costa Rica and Marjolein from the Netherlands. We knew this was God's hand and in September 1998 we were married. We have served with YWAM in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico, South Africa and Jamaica and since 2004 opened a new YWAM Training facility in San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica.

Our hearts are to see young people reached with the Gospel and discipled to walk in an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, making Him the Lord of their lives. We want to reach out to the poor and needy through community development and with training schools equip the next generation to go out and share the Gospel as well.

In 2002 our daughter Gioela was born in Nicaragua where we were serving at the that time. In December of 2004, 6 months after starting the work in Costa Rica our son Luca was born and in 2009 during the pioneering of a new facility our daughter Tessa was born in July of that year.

We feel very blessed as a family to be so cross-cultural. We have learned so much about each other's culture and have been able to enjoy all the new and challenging things that this brings. Living in Latin America was an adjustment at first for Marjolein who is from Europe, but now we woudn't want to be anywhere else. This is home, especially for our children, who look more european than anything, but they are so Latino at heart.

This is a little about us and we are looking to the future with great expectation of what God has us do in Costa Rica as well as all of Latin America.
